Staff trials

Put new staff on a trial with a starting role, track what they do, and sign them off into their full role when they are ready.

On this page

A trial lets a new member of staff start with a limited role and move up once you are happy with them. FiveStaff keeps count of what they do so the decision is easy.

Open Settings → Team and choose the Trials tab.

Starting a trial#

  1. Press Start a trial.
  2. Choose Who: somebody already on your team.
  3. Choose their Role while on trial, such as Trial Moderator.
  4. Choose their Role once signed off, such as Moderator.
  5. Press Start the trial.

While they are on trial#

The trial board shows how long they have been on trial, how many actions they have taken and how many reports they have closed. By default a trial is marked Ready to decide after 14 days, 10 actions and 3 closed reports. That only says it is time to look; the decision is always yours.

Signing them off#

Press Sign off and they move to their full role straight away.

If you use Discord, tick Give the Discord role on sign-off to give them the matching Discord role as well.

Discord only lets a bot give out roles that sit below its own. In your Discord server's settings, under Roles, drag the FiveStaff role above your staff roles. The bot asks for the Manage Roles permission when you add it; if you added it a while ago and the switch does not work, check the FiveStaff role has Manage Roles turned on there too.
